Ann Diener: Cathedrals of Commerce

Informed by the changing sociological and topological landscape of Central California, Ann Diener investigate the visual changes created by successive generations of agricultural development from the early farms of the German Irish to the predominantly Hispanic agricultural workers of today.

Her intricate, large-format drawings interweave architectural elements such as wire armatures, hoops, arches etc. with organic forms such as feathers, leaves seeds and webs to create intricate, layered spaces.  They offer evidence of the ways that farming methods have changed from simple operations to the intricate architecture of industrialized farming.
